The Autobiography of St Ignatius eBook Ignatius of Loyola J F X John Francis Xavier O'Conor
I stumbled across this book free on Amazon and decided to give it a whirl. I found myself fascinated by the view of what constituted a religious life in the 1500's. Ignatius commits a number of fasts, mortification of the flesh and other acts that make me regularly wince and worry about his sanity. Yet through it all I was amazed that this was a lauded lifestyle at the time. This isn't a hard read, but I did have to double check in my "Catholic to Normal Person" dictionary what some of the terms meant. A great slice of life, and really interesting historically.

The Autobiography of St Ignatius eBook Ignatius of Loyola J F X John Francis Xavier O'Conor Reviews
A good read, for sure, but when is the audio coming out?
(I know this is in the public domain, so production is cheap, cheap, cheap. I also know that it costs to produce an audio, but this is still a product worthy of consideration)
Call me if you want a free reader. I'll do it for you !!
I can only recommend this book to those seeking to read about Ignatius Loyola from primary sources. If one is interested in biography generally rather than autobiography specifically, I'd recommend finding another biography to read instead.
Been an ex-alumni of a Jesuit school, reading this Autobiography of the founder was a recollection of my years of education with the Jesuit priests, the book itself is well written.
a story of a man that changed history despite some personal flaws.
There are many things I'd like to say about this book unfortunately it wont fit in this little of space, in two words this book is Amazing and Inspiring. I really recommend it to any avid reader and definitely a committed member of the church, it will push you to want to pursue and achieve Sainthood. Great book!!!
I know St. Ignatius was a great Church father, but his extreme asceticism made me think of gnosticism. He didn't talk much about the founding of the Jesuit order--it was mostly his personal spiritual journey. It was interesting that he wrote (or dictated) in third person, so sometimes I had to remind myself I was reading an autobiography and not a biography.
This book is a translation and so comes off a bit stilted at times. It was written for people living during the Renaissance and so some events and people referred to are somewhat obscure to the modern reader. I found myself asking more questions. For example, why did he go to trial so often? Was that part of the Inquisition or the system of law in Europe at that time? The founding of the Jesuits was barely touched as well as the spiritual exercises. I would have liked more of an explanation of events. There was some info at the end. But to learn more I think I would need to read a more recent biography.
